I was looking for a sketch I did a long time ago and look what I found!
Back in 1993 we stayed at DH's cousins when we came to Arizona and she fed the birds everyday in the backyard which overlooked a canyon. So I sat out there and sketched the birds, bunnies and chippies. Even got a cactus in there.
Sketches from this long ago brought a smile to my face and lots of good memories. That's the best thing about journaling.
And how about this one in 1992. DH owned a cottage way up north in Wisconsin and that's when I saw my first Pileated Woodpecker. Even managed to sketch a woodland flower. Again, journaling brings such great memories.
I did these long before I ever considered using watercolor. I worked mainly in pencil, then slowly moved to colored pencil and finally made it to watercolor. Must have been my need for color.
Oh, and I never did find the sketch I was looking for. Hmm, must be in my sketchbooks back in Wisconsin.

What fun to find these sketches and have pleasant memories to come back to you. Wow, hasn't your sketching abilities come a long way?? I understand your need for color. I have always just loved the flow of watercolor even though I paint rather rigidly I love the look.
Beautiful and what treasures they are Teri! I also just love coming upon old and forgotten sketches, it's such a trip through memory lane!
These are a great find. I love seeing how far you have come since then too. I have some old ones I have been rediscovering lately and they do bring back memories on the moment. AS soon as my neck gets better..and I hope its soon... I am back to drawing again. Got to keep that journaling going. Its a moment in time doing but a life time in memories revieiwing them.
How fun to re discover earlier art work. I love looking through my art journals and being reminded of when and where and why I drew that particular picture.
Fun seeing your growth and evolution of mediums too.
Your new banner is beautiful Teri.
So full of love and color and your wonderful daisies.
and what a great way to remember spring past. I only wish it would hurry up and get here, this year!
I love the bunnies most of all! :<)
What a huge change in your art style since then.
You know, I think that has been the best part about keeping a journal (in any form) is being able to look back and see all the neat stuff you had done. I don't think anyone enjoys your own art more than you do since it has a personal meaning to the artist. I'm glad you made a point of saying this, as I need to remember it!!! xoxo---Julie
its amazing to me to see how your art has grown and changed - this is wonderful to see
These are cute. It is fun to find art done long ago, isn't it? I like that woodpecker!
What a nice time this must have been, I think.
I love the woodpecker - I always like seeing these birds - although I don't think it's quite that kind we have. I think ours are a more common kind - but some of them stay the winter, and so must be quite a hardy bird.
Thanks for sharing these Teri!
