On Saturday, the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center celebrated the New Year which is the Year of the Snake. They called it the 'Taste of China Festival'
We went and I had sketchbook in hand. The first thing I noticed was the brochure with the cactus on it so I sketched that for Cactus Monday. So many events in Tucson feature the Saguaro cactus on the ad/brochure.
Young Chinese dancers performed several dances (I thought they were so similiar to ballet, but then, I would with the grandgirls). The costumes were beautiful.
It was only 50 degrees F so I felt sorry for them. And us.
Actually went to the center a few days before to sketch one of the lions that sit outside. Good thing as it was so cold and there were so many people attending on Saturday.
There were five different tents of food representing different areas in China. The food I had was good except for one problem.....we got the food hot but by the time we walked to the tables it was cold because everything was outside. Who knew we would have a wonderful warm week and that the weekend would turn cold. But they still did a great job.
I had to paste on the '2013' from the brochure because it was done so creatively.
Happy Chinese Cactus Monday

what a great event and from your experience beautiful art! That is a great 2013 logo!
Love your sketches - here, in SF, we have so many Chinese New Years Celebrations...I was happy that Marianne and Marja were able to sample a bit of it - although they missed the parade! Love the logo!
And how wonderful to combine the Cactus with the Chinese....isn't it wonderful how every state celebrates in it's own way!
Here's to a wonderful year of the SSSSSSSnake..!! And....HCM!
Love,

Oh, I love all of this Teri.
We made egg carton dragons with our toddlers. Also taught them the cutest dragons song and dance.
